The American Colony Hotel – Small Luxury Hotels of the World
Your Jerusalem Stay
First Impressions
Walking into The American Colony Hotel – Small Luxury Hotels of the World honestly feels like stepping into a different era — and I mean that in the best possible way. This five-star property sits on Louis Vincent Street in Jerusalem, and you know what strikes you first? It’s not trying too hard to impress. The stone courtyards and Ottoman-era architecture just sort of embrace you, like the place has been waiting patiently for decades to share its stories.
The Neighborhood
Here’s something most people don’t realize — this hotel landed in what’s genuinely the best-rated area of Jerusalem, and couples especially seem to get it (they rate the location 8.5 out of 10). You’re positioned perfectly between East and West Jerusalem, which means you can actually walk to both the Old City and the more modern areas without dealing with the usual tourist transport headaches. I mean, being able to stroll to Damascus Gate in one direction and catch a taxi to the Israel Museum in the other? That’s pretty ideal for exploring.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this wonderful mix of historical charm and modern comfort — thick stone walls that keep things cool, but with air conditioning that actually works when you need it. What really impressed me was the bed situation; apparently this place gets consistently high marks for comfortable beds, and honestly, after walking around Jerusalem all day, you’ll appreciate sinking into something that supportive. The bathrooms are spacious too, with those little luxury touches that remind you this is part of Small Luxury Hotels without being flashy about it.
Dining and Amenities
The breakfast buffet here is actually worth getting up for — and I’m usually a coffee-and-go person when I travel. They’ve got this great mix of Middle Eastern and international options spread out in their beautiful dining restaurant, plus you can eat outside in the courtyard when the weather’s nice. There’s also free private parking available, which might not sound exciting until you’ve tried navigating Jerusalem’s streets looking for a spot. Trust me, it’s a bigger deal than you’d think.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart isn’t just the luxury factor — though the attention to detail is definitely there. It’s more about the atmosphere and the location working together. You’re staying somewhere with genuine historical significance (the building has quite a story), but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore both ancient and modern Jerusalem without feeling like you’re constantly commuting. The staff seems to understand that balance too; they’re helpful without being overly formal, and they actually know the area well enough to give you solid recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots.
The concierge service in Jerusalem arranges private tunnel tours, candlelit rooftop dinners, and scholars to illuminate sacred narratives.

Guest Reviews
Amazing stylish !!!
Old school staff !
What could be improved: The service at the pool, was really problematic !!! you had to scan the menu and also order online, additionally you had to give info like your name your phone number& I don’t know what else! I didn’t had the time or patience to do all this ! I just wanted to have a drink by the pool while I was sunbathing!
So I had to start complaining to the poor waiter
Except that everything else was super !!!
Welcoming caring staff. The building has such history and character with the stone architecture and polished stone walkways .
Exceptional service, and absolutely wonderful location - secluded and away from the crowds. Perfect stay
What could be improved: Everything was great
Great hotel, wonderful locationd and facilities. very rich breakfast. free parking. quite costly though
What could be improved: the price, though the hotelis indeed unique and special, it is too costly
The place, the service, the rooms
What could be improved: For Friday dinner, we used the buffet service, but later we saw that the charge for the meal was very high, far beyond what was expected.
The atmosphere and unique history of the building- a place of exceptional beauty and flair
Everything
What could be improved: Nothing
The hotel grounds are beautiful, with a lovely, lush garden in between the stone buildings of the estate. Ample free parking was available on site. The service was superb, all staff were helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was rich and tasty, and there was a selection of vegan items available upon request. Complimentary beverages and water bottles were stocked daily in the room, and having a Nespresso coffee machine complete with capsules in the room was lovely. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the approaching Christmas holiday and the festive atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We enjoyed drinks at the bar, which is comfortable and cozy, lovely for relaxing after a day of exploring the city.
What could be improved: Nothing, really. Our stay was perfect
The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room and balcony was spacious and cozy. And last but not least, the heated floors in the bathroom were an unexpected delight!
Beautiful building. Professional and very pleasant staff. Great shower experience.
What could be improved: Breads at breakfast were stale. Price was too expensive. Bed wasn’t very comfortable- 2 separate single blankets, 2 single beds combined with uncomfortable gap in the middle.
